The NewForest Story

How it all began
The story of New Forest Clothing began in 1978 when the parents of our director, James, ventured into retail. Starting with market stalls at bustling local markets, farmers' markets, and country shows, they quickly built a reputation for quality and reliability. Eventually, two shops were opened in the charming New Forest town of Ringwood and nearby Salisbury. A young James was often by his father’s side, helping out from the early hours on Saturday mornings. This hands-on experience ignited his passion for retail and laid the foundation for what would become New Forest Clothing.

First website build
In 2012, newforestclothing.co.uk was born! This marked the beginning of an exciting partnership between James and his brother-in-law Paul. The operation started humbly, with boxes of stock stored in a corner of an old barn on Paul’s parents’ farm. A basic website was created, and the journey into online retail began. At first, sales trickled in slowly, and it quickly became apparent that a lot more effort was needed to grow the business. Despite juggling full-time jobs, James and Paul committed themselves to building their online presence, one step at a time.

Building the business
Country shows and events, including the New Forest Show and The British Shooting Show, became vital opportunities to meet customers face-to-face. Not everything went smoothly, though - such as selling waterproofs and wax jackets during a heatwave at the New Forest Show! However, these interactions allowed James and Paul to connect with their customers, providing excellent service and gaining their trust. The loyalty of these early customers helped the business grow through repeat sales and word-of-mouth recommendations.

Building the brand
By 2016, New Forest Clothing had taken the next big step—launching its own brand. Starting with a classic wax jacket, New Forest partnered with a family-run UK manufacturer to create a high-quality garment at an affordable price. The first products were a labor of love, and seeing them featured in Shooting Times was a proud milestone for the business. Fast-forward to 5 years, and the New Forest label had grown to include over 50 unique styles. Each piece is designed with an eye for practicality, durability, and style, reflecting the team’s deep knowledge of and passion for country life.

New Warehouse
In the summer of 2022, New Forest Clothing relocated to a spacious 11,500 sq. ft. office and warehouse facility in Three Legged Cross, Dorset. This move marked a new chapter in the company’s growth. With an ever-expanding range of quality outdoor clothing and a growing customer base, the new warehouse allowed the team to streamline operations while increasing inventory. Thanks to this modern facility, New Forest Clothing continues to provide the speedy and reliable service that customers have come to expect. The move also underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional value and quality.
